I’ve set up a GitLab repository and a YouTrack server for our development workflow.
GitLab: This is our code repository where you’ll find all the source code for our projects. You can clone the repositories, push your code, and manage merge requests here.
YouTrack: This is our issue tracker and project management tool. You can create and track issues, plan sprints, and manage your tasks.
Please self-register (you do not need to use a work email) and I’ll approve you for the development team, which will give you access to the code repositories.
Leave a comment here when you have done so or if you encounter any issues.
We are using this Discord server for further discussion regarding our open-source modules that are currently in development. While we will still be releasing the modules, updates and pipeline here on the DDC-Talk community board, the Discord server will be used for our day-to-day communication within the development team.
If you’re interested in collaborating in any way, please reach out!
Legendary, I’ve accepted you and added you to the N4 group as a developer. Currently the repo is empty. Once we come up with a module name I’ll scaffold the module repo which you will be able to pull from.
Give me a gauge on your dev experience so I can gauge what areas can assist you with in getting started.
Of course no experience is fine, I’m here to teach where needed and help you level up.
Like I say, I’ve got a degree in ME, and a little knowledge of Distech GFX programming platform, also some IT experience. But direct knowledge of Niagara…negligable. So, use me for what you can. I’m really just at the start of my BAS story arc, but if I can build knowledge and experience from sweat equity…I’d love to learn anything I can. I’d love to say I can throw down with you guys, but that would be misrepresentation! I’m about halfway through a HVACR/Controls program at a local college. Really looking at getting into the design/programming side of BAS. Again, thank you for accepting me with my level of knowledge.
Love it, sounds like you’re already on a good path to success. The fact that your seeking knowledge in your own time already makes you 90% better than most BAS technicians.
Aside to the module development I’m also trying to build a ddc community on this site. I haven’t really been advertising it anywhere yet, just been trying to generate some good content so the site doesn’t look empty when visited.
If you ever have any BAS related questions please ask on this board and I will 100% answer in depth!
Reddit and facebook groups are great places for discussion. But I find the knowledge is lost down the feed over time. The intent here is to create a community where knowledge is retained and easily searchable for future learners.
One thing I can highly recommend and will immediately set you apart from your peers, especially if working with tridium. Is learn a little Java, even if it’s just the basic it will go a long way!
Niagara is built on Java, so having a base knowledge in Java will greatly help you in diagnosing the software.
I would love to know JAVA. It seems the basis to so many things. I believe knowledge of common elements are priceless in that they carry value over so many fields. I also am of the mind that book knowledge is…limited. It doesn’t mean anything till you can apply it. So I’m just looking at my BAS Course work as preliminary background info. Also, Niagara is also widespread and well respected, so I am thrilled to be a part of your discussion!
Hey guys I have approved these. Just to let you know we have abandoned the ordinal project and plan to start a more specifically scoped project at the turn of the new year. We will leave the existing repos for reference
We found that we were lacking direction and were starting too many simultaneous projects. We instead would like to collaborate on a specific, problem and bring it to production before moving on to the next.
Always open to suggestions! More on this in the new year
Hi, I have just signed up on here and on your gitlab as gerrypm, I am getting started in development and have created a handfull of modules, can you approve me on gitlab, would be great to work with you.
