Does anyone know if it possible to use the onboard RS-485 connecter on an ECY-S1000 for a Modbus network and then bring those devices into a JACE using the Modbus TCP Gateway Network and pointing it to the ECY.
I have played around with this and can’t get it working so I’m assuming its a hard no. But if anyone has some incites please share
Example:
I have an energy meter connected to the RS-485 port on the ECY. There will be multiple.
Then I want to bring those into niagara as modbus TCP gateway devices. By pointing the ModbusTcpGateway network at the ECY IP. Then adding the gateway devices with the matching addresses.
Essentially I want to cut out the step of having to add the Modubus points in the GFX program and then route them to BACnet points to bring them into the jace.
That ECY-S1000 is something I’ve seen in my DistechGFX program that a buddy set me up with (I’ve actually tried to get him on ddc-talk for a while). I’m going to pose this question to him and see if he has any info. It might take a bit, but it can’t hurt to ask.

That would be great! I’d love to know if this is possible. I’ve asked around my workplace and I’ve got not possibles from everyone.
This was the response I got to your question on using onboard RS-485 connectors:
“I feel like you may need a license for using modbus on the RS485 port but I’m not sure. Distech like to pretend that tat the ECY1000 is a supervisor which would imply it could do such a thing but it really isn’t. I normally convert modbus to BACnet using a MSC protonode. They are super easy to setup, often they already have a template for whatever device is being converted.
On the subject of ECYs I have one I just pulled out of my lab because we are no longer supporting Distech on our previous installs. Our old customers now have to upgrade to Johnson Controls if there are any hardware issues or large programming changes. If you’d like it to play with I will happily ship it down to you.”
Doesn’t sound like great news for you, but hopefully it can direct you in the right direction.

Thanks for asking @ControlFreak. I have a licensed ECY-S1000 for modbus connection. I am able to connect the meters to the RS484 and add them to the ECY. This was more of a me being lazy and not wanting to have to go the hard route of creating BACnet points in the ECY to write the modbus points to in order to discover them into the jace. It seems after trying lots of different things that it’s not possible. Guess i’ll have to stop being lazy
