Niagara N4 on Windows Failover Cluster with Synology SAN – Host ID Question

I’m exploring a setup where two Niagara N4 servers (either physical or VMs) run in a Windows Server Failover Cluster (WSFC). The idea is to use a Synology SAN (via iSCSI) or a similar shared storage solution to provide high-speed disk access and enable automatic failover between nodes.

Has anyone implemented this type of configuration? A few specific questions:

  • How does WSFC handle Niagara host IDs in a failover scenario?

  • When the active node fails and the passive node takes over, does Niagara continue to use the same host ID, since only one server is active at a time?

  • During the initial install, do I need to purchase two separate host IDs/licenses, or can a single host ID work across the clustered pair?

Any experiences, caveats, or recommendations for Niagara N4 + WSFC with Synology (or other SANs) would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure if that can be configured on 2 supervisors?
